Rock Valley is proud to offer city and local residents the ability to use our yard waste site and county landfill. We know one of the largest barriers to properly disposing of waste is a convenient place to do that. Learn more about Rock Valley's Yard Waste Site and the County Landfill.

City Yard Waste Site

The City Yard Waste Site is located at 2019 Main Street, Rock Valley, IA 51247. This site can be used to dispose of grass, leaves, brush. Please read the rules regarding disposal of yard waste before you come.

Rules for Rock Valley's Yard Waste Site:

  1. Absolutely no garbage. Plastic, cement and etc. anything that will not compost is allowed.
  2. Please check the back of your pickup or trailer before you load your grass or leaves for plastic bottles, cans and etc.
  3. Do not mix branches or twigs with your grass or leaves.

Rules for branch pile

  1. If it is not a branch or wood from a tree, it is not allowed at the City Yard Waste Site.
  2. We do not accept root balls.

The City has these rules in place because yard waste is recycled. The branches get ground up into chips and are used in an ethanol plant. The grass and leaves can only be composted if there is no garbage in the mix. Compost made from grass and leaves at the City Yard Waste site will be available for Rock Valley residents to use as a fertilizer.

Landfill

The Northwest Iowa Area Landfill accepts most household hazardous materials (HHMs) at no cost. Please see the list of accepted materials below.

Hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. Please contact the landfill at (712) 324-4026 to schedule an appointment to dispose of any HHMs.

The landfill also has a transportable HHM drop-off facility that visits Sioux Center annually. Please see the city’s events calendar for the next available date. The landfill is located at 4540 360th Street, Sheldon, IA 51201-8020.

  • De-greasers
  • Paint (latex paint will be assessed a fee of $1.00 per
  • gallon)
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Polishes
  • Solvents
  • Stain removers
